UMD Maryland Day

July 21, 2019

The NFSC dietetic interns participated in UMD’s annual Maryland Day on Saturday April 27, 2019.

Half of the interns participated in the internship’s booth in Ag Alley where they worked with kids using food replicas to create their own ideal plate with their favorite foods from each food group. This activity illustrated having a balanced meal and portion control to the kids and their parents. A corn hole toss added to the fun.

The other half of the interns worked at the Campus Dining Services Sustainability booth along with the Terp Farm team. They gave away tomato and basil seedings grown at the UMD’s Terp Farm. They also were available to provide some basic information about the seedlings and how to use the produce once it is harvested.

Both teams of interns enjoyed helping the community explore these food and nutrition topics.
