The Graduate Program in Nutrition is an interdepartmental program that draws upon the faculty and resources of the departments of Nutrition and Food Science, Animal and Avian Sciences, Anthropology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, and Medicine (University of Maryland at Baltimore), as well as scientists in nearby non-academic research institutions.

The program offers graduate study leading to the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in nutrition. Research interests of the faculty include: the genetic and metabolic basis for dietary requirements of animals and humans; nutritional biochemistry; nutritional aspects of chronic disease; international nutrition; community nutrition; nutritional epidemiology; and nutrition, neuroscience and behavior. All programs require completion of a research project. Programs of research are individually planned by the student and an appropriate Graduate Advisory Committee.

The University is an internationally recognized research university. It is also the most comprehensive institution of higher education, research, and service in the state of Maryland. Approximately 20 students are enrolled in the Graduate Program in Nutrition.
